AI governance

Also known as: artificial intelligence governance

AI governance is the set of policies, controls, and oversight practices that keep an organization's use of artificial intelligence safe, compliant, and accountable. In a Microsoft 365 context it covers tools such as Copilot and Copilot Studio: who can use them, what data they may reach, and how usage is monitored. Effective AI governance combines readiness checks, access reviews, and continuous policy monitoring so that innovation does not outpace control or regulatory obligations.

AI governance gives organizations a structured way to adopt AI without losing control of data, cost, or compliance. As Copilot and agents spread across a tenant, the questions multiply: which users are ready, which content they can surface, and whether usage aligns with regulations like the EU AI Act.

Why it matters

Ungoverned AI amplifies existing weaknesses. If content is already over-permissioned, Copilot will surface it faster and to more people. Governance closes that gap before rollout.

How Rencore helps

Rencore centralizes AI governance alongside Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform. It assesses Copilot readiness, runs access reviews, and monitors policy continuously, with recommended policies that auto-activate. This helps teams stay aligned with the EU AI Act and GDPR.
