Create a Custom Relation

Custom Metadata is in Preview. Contact your Customer Success Manager to request access.

A Custom Relation links an object to exactly one instance of another object, for example a Team to its Cost Center. The link is visible on both ends: the source object shows its related instance, and the target instance shows the objects related to it.

To create a Custom Relation, you will need to:

  1. On the Inventory page, click “Inventory Options” ([…]) and select “Manage your metadata”.
  2. Click the ellipses menu ([…]) in the top-right of Manage your metadata and select ”+ Add custom metadata”.
  3. Select the object the Custom Relation should be added to and click “Continue”.
  4. Under “Custom relations”, click ”+ Add relation”.
  5. Give the relation a name and description, and choose the target object it points to, for example a Cost Center Custom Object.
  6. Click “Add”.
  7. Click “Save”.

Who Can Create and Edit

Creating, editing, or removing a Custom Relation requires the inventory’s Edit permission.

Using It

Once created, the relation shows up as an operand in the Segment, Report, and Policy builders, and can be filled in through Provisioning and Reviews the same way a Custom Property can. See Use Custom Metadata in Policies and Reports.
