Partial scanning

Also known as: Partial Scan, progressive scanning

Partial scanning is the Rencore Governance scanning engine that updates the inventory while a scan is still running. Inventory totals, policy results and segments update during the scan.

It splits the root objects of a tenant into batches, scans each batch with all its child objects, and syncs the batch into the inventory as soon as it is complete.

For you, partial scanning means you see results earlier. A large tenant no longer waits for the end of a full scan before new objects and violations appear.

For example, during the first scan of a tenant with thousands of sites, the inventory and policy results fill up batch by batch.

How it differs from older scans

Partial scanning replaces the Full, Initial and Incremental scan types for supported environments. It uses delta tokens when valid ones exist and collects all data otherwise. After the last batch, a final step removes objects that were in the previous scan but were not seen in any batch.
