Steps
- Choose one of the three ways below to build your template.
Start from a library template
Every new template starts from the Provisioning Template Library. Pick the template closest to what you need. Its predefined details load into the template builder, where you change them. For a blank team, use the Custom Team template.
- Click Provisioning on the Nav Panel.
- Click Manage Provisioning Templates.
- Click Create provisioning template. The Provisioning Template Library opens. Filter it by service to find a template.
- Select the template and click Use this Template.
- Give the template a unique title and a description, so requesters can tell it apart from the others.
- Change the settings in Template Settings, Provisioning Settings and Approval.
- Click Done. Save the template and turn it on right away, or save it as a draft to finish it later.
Set Who can see this template to Only Me (for testing) while you test a new template. Change it to Everybody or to selected groups when it is ready.
Creating a provisioning team template describes every setting of the builder.
Import a template
Templates move between Workspaces and Environments as .provisioning files (JSON).
- Export the template from one Workspace. See Export a provisioning template.
- Import it into the other Workspace. See Import a provisioning template.
Add a PnP provisioning template
A PnP provisioning template is an XML file in the Microsoft PnP provisioning schema. You add it to a team template or a SharePoint site template, where it builds on the template’s settings and can do things the builder does not offer, such as always adding certain owners or members, adding standard and private channelsPrivate channelA private channel is a Microsoft Teams channel that only some members of the team can see.Read more, or adding apps and tabs to a channel. - Open your team or SharePoint site template and go to Provisioning Settings.
- In PnP Template, set Use custom template to On and select the PnP template.
The name, description and visibility always come from the provisioning template, not from the PnP template. PnP cannot create shared channels.
