Connectors, modules and preview

AI summary

Connectors link Rencore Governance to services like Teams, SharePoint, and ChatGPT Enterprise to scan data into your inventory. They are grouped into three modules: Digital Workplace, Apps Automation & BI, and AI & Agents. You activate each one in your Environment by granting access via Microsoft consent, API keys, or other methods depending on the service; those marked Preview are released for use but not yet generally available.

A connector links Rencore Governance to one service, such as Teams or ChatGPT Enterprise, and scans it into your inventory. A connector in Preview is released for use but not yet generally available.

Connectors are grouped in three modules: Digital Workplace, Apps, Automation & BI, and AI & Agents. You turn on each connector in your Environment and give it consent or keys.

How it works

Modules

ModuleConnectorsIn your Plan
Digital WorkplaceMicrosoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Viva Engage, Planner, Entra IDIncluded in every Plan
Apps, Automation & BIPower Apps, Power Automate, Power BIAdd-on module on the Premium and Enterprise Plans
AI & AgentsCopilot, Copilot Studio, SharePoint Agents, Azure, Microsoft Foundry (Preview), Claude Enterprise (Preview), ChatGPT Enterprise (Preview)Add-on module on the Premium and Enterprise Plans

Add-on modules are activated on the Environment of your Workspace. See Add-ons for which Plan includes what. The connector pages list what each connector scans, with its policies, automations and actions.

Turning a connector on

A connector scans nothing until two things are done in the Environment:

  1. The connector is turned on under “Manage Services” in the Environment Settings.
  2. Rencore Governance has access to the service. How depends on the service:
Kind of accessConnectorsWhat you do
Microsoft consentMicrosoft 365 services, CopilotA Microsoft 365 administrator gives consent for each service, or once for all
Delegated consentPower Apps, Power AutomateA dedicated Power Platform Administrator account gives consent, and its access is used for scanning
Your own Entra ID appPower BI, Copilot Studio, Azure, Microsoft FoundryYou create an app in your tenant and enter its tenant ID, client ID and client secret
API keysClaude Enterprise, ChatGPT EnterpriseYou enter keys created in that service

Connect a service has the steps for each one.

Preview

A connector marked Preview is released for use, but it is not generally available yet. These docs show a Preview badge next to its name in the sidebar, on its connector page and in the module lists. Claude Enterprise, for example, is available when your Subscription includes it. If it is not included, the connector shows “Contact sales”. Connectors that are not released at all are not described in these docs.

Example

Your company uses Teams and SharePoint, builds flows in Power Automate and has a ChatGPT Enterprise workspace. Teams and SharePoint are part of Digital Workplace, so you turn them on and give Microsoft consent. Power Automate needs the Apps, Automation & BI module and a Power Platform Administrator account. ChatGPT Enterprise is in Preview and is connected with keys from your ChatGPT workspace.

How it relates to other concepts

  • Connectors decide what ends up in the inventory, and so which policies, reports and automations you can use.
  • Connectors and consent are set per Environment.
  • Some built-in actions and automation actions need more permissions the first time you use them.
  • Default Rencore teams are cut along connectors, so you can limit a user to the data of one connector.

Frequently asked questions

What does a connector in preview mean?

A connector in Preview is released for use but not yet generally available. A Preview badge appears next to its name in the sidebar, on its connector page and in the module lists.

Which connectors belong to the Digital Workplace module?

Digital Workplace includes Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Viva Engage, Planner and Entra ID. This module is included in every Plan.

What must I do before a connector starts scanning?

You must turn on the connector under "Manage Services" in the Environment Settings. Rencore Governance also needs access to the service, which you give through consent, a dedicated account, your own Entra ID app or API keys, depending on the service.

How do I connect Power Apps and Power Automate?

Use delegated consent. A dedicated Power Platform Administrator account gives consent, and its access is used for scanning.

Which connectors need API keys?

Claude Enterprise and ChatGPT Enterprise use API keys. You enter keys that you created in that service.
