App registration

Also known as: application registration, Entra ID app

An app registration is the global definition of an application in Microsoft Entra ID. It holds the app's identity, its credentials and the API permissions it requests.

Power BI, Copilot Studio, Azure and Microsoft Foundry connect through an Entra ID app that you register in your own tenant. You enter its tenant ID, client ID and client secret in Rencore Governance when you give consent.

The app lives in your tenant, so you control its permissions and its secret. Rencore Governance only uses the values you enter.

For example, for Copilot Studio you register an app named “Dataverse Access for Rencore Governance” under App registrations, add the Dynamics CRM permission user_impersonation and create a client secret.

The Entra ID connector also scans the app registrations in your tenant. Policies flag application registrations without owners and applications with expired client secrets or certificates.
