Anonymized user data

Also known as: de-identified user data, pseudonymized user data, un-anonymize user data

Anonymized user data is user information that Microsoft 365 replaces with de- identified names in its usage reports. Rencore Governance shows these anonymized values on objects built from those reports.

Microsoft turned this on by default for all tenants on September 1, 2021. It affects objects such as user activity and Teams usage reports. A Global administrator can turn it off in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

The setting belongs to your Microsoft 365 tenant, not to Rencore Governance. While it is on, the Microsoft 365 report APIs return de-identified values, and Rencore Governance shows what it receives.

For example, the User Activity Report, the Teams usage reports and User Mailboxes then show a de-identified value instead of the user name.

Showing user names again

In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings, Org Settings, Services, select Reports, and clear In all reports, display de-identified names for users, groups, and sites. The data shows user names again after the next scan of the Microsoft 365 connector, usually within a day.
