Scan
Also known as: continuous scan, tenant scan, scan job
A scan is how Rencore Governance reads metadata from a connected tenant into the inventory. Scanning is continuous, and there is no fixed time when all data is updated.
You set a target interval for each object type, but scans can run later. Rencore Governance adjusts the frequency to the amount of data, the connector, the effort to retrieve the data and how often it changes, and stays within Microsoft 365 throttling limits.
Every number you see in Rencore Governance comes from the latest scan. Scans read metadata only, such as names, owners and permissions, never the content of files or messages.
For example, after a new Team is created, it appears in the inventory and in policy results after the next scan of the Teams connector.
Scan intervals
Each object type has an update interval: Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly or Monthly, and some elements also offer Never or Initial (collected once). The interval is a target, not a guarantee: a scan can run later than planned. Lengthening the interval of less important objects leaves more capacity for the important ones. You change intervals under Configure objects, and see every completed and running scan job under All scans.
Automations triggered on a policy violation run after scans and scan batches that update the policy, at most once a day per object. A violation only changes when its object is scanned again, so an object with a monthly interval keeps its old result for up to a month.
