Client secret

Also known as: application secret, app secret

A client secret is a password-like string that an app registration uses to prove its identity when it requests a token from Microsoft Entra ID.

Rencore Governance needs a client secret for the connectors that use your own Entra ID app: Power BI, Copilot Studio, Azure and Microsoft Foundry. You enter the tenant ID, the client ID and the secret value when you give consent.

Microsoft Entra ID shows the secret value only once, when you create it. Copy it right away, because you cannot read it again later.

For example, when the secret of the Copilot Studio app expires, Rencore Governance can no longer scan Copilot Studio. Create a new secret before then and give consent again with the new value.

The Entra ID connector also scans the client secrets in your tenant. Policies flag applications with client secrets that have expired or are about to expire, so an app does not stop working unnoticed.
