Environment
Also known as: connected tenant, root environment
An Environment is the connected Microsoft 365 tenant inside a Workspace. A Workspace has exactly one Environment.
The Environment holds the data Rencore Governance scans from that tenant, together with its consent, connectors, currency, notifications and mail settings. Virtual Environments split an Environment into smaller segments, and a demo environment, created through try.rencore.com, holds demo data instead of tenant data.
The Environment is what you work in day to day. Dashboards, the inventory, policies and automations all show the data of the Environment you selected.
For example, the Environment Settings hold the consent for your tenant, the currency for license cost reports and who receives notifications.
You switch Environments, including Virtual Environments, with the Workspace & Environment Selector on the Nav Panel.
Connecting a tenant
You connect a tenant in three stages: sign in to the tenant, give consent for the connectors you want to scan, then start the scan. Settings that apply to the tenant live under Environment Settings. Add-on modules and add-ons are also activated per Environment.
Not a Power Platform environment
Power Apps and Power Automate have environments of their own. Rencore Governance scans those into the inventory as objects. They are not Rencore Environments.
