Microsoft 365 tenant
Also known as: tenant, M365 tenant
A Microsoft 365 tenant is the dedicated instance of Microsoft 365 that holds an organization's users, groups, data and settings. Rencore Governance connects to one tenant per Workspace.
In the Workspace, the tenant becomes the Environment, and Rencore Governance scans its metadata into the inventory through the consent an administrator gives. Organizations with several tenants use one Workspace for each tenant.
Connecting a tenant takes three stages on the Connect your tenant screen: sign in to the tenant, give consent for the connectors you want to scan, then start the scan. Signing in works with any ordinary user account. Giving consent needs an administrator.
For example, a partner that governs three customers creates three Workspaces, each connected to its customer’s tenant, so each customer sees only its own data.
You connect a tenant from the banner at the top of the screen, or under Settings, Workspace Settings, Environments and Connect now. One tenant can later be split into Virtual Environments.
