Private channel

A private channel is a Microsoft Teams channel that only some members of the team can see. It has its own SharePoint site for its files.

Rencore Governance scans private channels with the Teams connector, together with the other channels of a team. A policy and a report list the teams that have private channels.

Members of a private channel can see content that other members of the team cannot. That makes the team owner’s view incomplete, so it helps to know which teams have private channels.

For example, the policy Teams with private channels lists every team with at least one private channel, and the Private Channels report shows the channels themselves.

The SharePoint site of a private channel is separate from the team’s site. The Inactive Teams policy behind the Archive Unused Teams automation template also looks at when the Teams Private Channel Site Collections were last used.
