Channel
Also known as: Teams channel, standard channel
A channel is a section inside a Microsoft Teams team where members hold conversations and share files on one topic. A channel is standard, private or shared.
The Teams connector of Rencore Governance scans every channel of every team into the inventory, with its members, owners, tabs and SharePoint site. Each channel shows its membership type, so standard, private and shared channels sit in one list.
A team with many channels is hard to keep track of, and Microsoft limits a team to 200 channels. Policies flag teams with many channels, teams close to that limit and teams with private channels.
For example, the policy Teams with many channels flags teams with more than 50 channels by default, and the built-in actions add or remove a member or an owner of a channel.
Channels also come up when you provision a team. A Provisioning Template can suggest pre-defined Teams channels, and an automation can post a message to a Teams channel.
