Custom Metadata

Also known as: custom property, custom object, custom relation, data source, business metadata

Custom Metadata is a Rencore Governance add-on that adds your own business fields to the inventory, such as cost centers or project codes. It is included in the Enterprise Plan.

Fields can also hold classifications. You define custom properties, custom objects, custom relations and data sources, then use those fields like any built-in property in policies, reports, provisioning forms, reviews and automations.

Custom Metadata connects the inventory to how your business is organized. Once a field exists, you filter, report and automate on it like on any built-in property.

For example, a cost center property on Teams lets a report show storage per cost center, and a provisioning form can ask for the cost center when someone requests a new Team.

What you can define

  • A custom property is a typed field on an existing object type: Text, Number, Date, Single select or Yes-No.
  • A custom object is a new inventory of your own, such as a list of cost centers.
  • A custom relation links an object to exactly one instance of another object, visible on both ends.
  • A data source is a SharePoint file or library that keeps values current, refreshed at least every four hours or on demand.

Every customization is listed on Manage your metadata. Custom Metadata is available as an add-on to the Premium Plan.
