Automation

Also known as: automation trigger, automation template, governance workflow, Automation Builder

An automation is a workflow Rencore Governance runs on inventory objects when a trigger fires. It has one trigger and one or more steps, and each step runs an action.

Actions include sending an email, archiving a Team or calling a webhook. Steps can also hold conditions, branches and approvals.

Automations act on what your policies find. Policies find what is wrong, and automations notify people or fix it, with an approval first when the change is large.

For example, the Archive unused teams template archives teams that a policy flags as inactive.

Click Automation on the Nav Panel to see your automations, add one from the Automations Template Library or build a custom one.

Triggers

  • Manually runs the automation on the object you start it from.
  • On Schedule runs it periodically on policy violations or inventory items.
  • On Policy Violation runs it for every violation of a policy, after scans and scan batches that update the policy, at most once a day per object.
  • On form values runs it from a form, as provisioning templates do.
  • On review runs it from a Review, for example when a reviewer chooses an action.

Each automation has a criticality level. Automations are not available in a Virtual Environment.
