Criticality level

Also known as: action criticality

A criticality level, Low, Medium or High, rates how much impact an automation or built-in action has on your tenant. Roles carry separate permissions to execute actions of each level.

Deleting a SharePoint site collection is High, while sending an email to a site owner is Low. Because roles carry separate permissions for low, medium and high criticality, you decide who may run high-impact changes.

Criticality levels let you hand out actions safely. Everyday users can run low-impact actions, while only a few people may run changes that delete or archive content.

For example, a custom role can allow actions of low and medium criticality only, so its users cannot delete a SharePoint site collection, which is High.

Criticality or severity

Criticality applies to automations and actions. Severity applies to policy violations.
