Permission level
Also known as: permission levels, SharePoint permission level
A permission level is a named set of SharePoint permissions, such as Full Control, Edit or Read, that you grant to a user or a SharePoint group.
Each SharePoint site comes with default permission levels, and an admin can add custom ones. When you give a permission level to a SharePoint group, all members of the group get the same access.
Permission levels decide what people can do with content they can reach. Two users with access to the same site can have very different rights, for example Read against Full Control.
For example, the automation actions that add or remove a SharePoint group on a site collection, site, list, folder or file set the permission the group gets there.
Do not confuse the permission level Full Control on a site with the Full Control applications of Rencore Governance. Those are Entra ID applications that hold Microsoft API permissions to scan SharePoint and OneDrive.
