SharePoint group

Also known as: SharePoint groups, site group

A SharePoint group is a set of users defined in a SharePoint site and given a permission level, such as the Owners, Members or Visitors group of the site.

Rencore Governance scans SharePoint groups with the SharePoint connector, using the Rencore Governance for SharePoint (Full Control) application. SharePoint Group and SharePoint Special Group are object types of their own in the SharePoint inventory.

A SharePoint group grants access inside one site, separate from Entra ID and Microsoft 365 groups. To see who can open a site, you need both kinds of group.

For example, automation actions add or remove a SharePoint group with a certain permission on a site collection, site, list, folder or file.

In a review in the Rencore Teams App, the Site Access step shows SharePoint groups on their own tab, next to Entra ID and Microsoft 365 groups and individual users.
