Subsite

Also known as: SharePoint subsite

A subsite is a site created under another SharePoint site in the same site collection. It is the older way to structure SharePoint, before flat sites joined by hub sites.

Rencore Governance scans the root site and every subsite of a site collection as Site objects in the SharePoint inventory. Policies flag site collections with subsites and subsites with their own permissions.

Deep subsite trees are hard to manage, and each subsite can break permission inheritance from its parent. SharePoint also allows at most 2,000 subsites per site collection.

For example, the policy Site Collection is near subsite limit flags site collections close to that limit, and SharePoint subsite has unique permissions flags subsites whose permissions differ from their parent.

Microsoft Graph cannot return a site collection with more than 12 subsites, so Rencore Governance cannot scan it and shows a scan error. Move subsites out until 12 or fewer are left, then wait for the next scan.
