Redirect rule

Also known as: message redirect rule, forwarding rule, mail forwarding rule

A redirect rule forwards or redirects the incoming email of a mailbox to another recipient. It can send company mail outside the organization.

The Exchange connector of Rencore Governance scans the redirect rules of every mailbox, with the recipients each rule forwards to, forwards as an attachment to or redirects to, and whether the rule is turned on.

A rule that sends mail to an outside recipient copies company information out of your tenant with every message it forwards.

For example, the policy Mailboxes with external redirect rules flags every mailbox with a rule whose recipients include an external email account, so you can check the rule with the mailbox owner.

Redirect rules are on the Exchange tile under Inventory. Microsoft hides user names in its usage reports by default, so redirect rules can show codes instead of user names until a Global Administrator turns that off.
